In its official blog, Phison's representatives reported that an 8-TB NVMe drive of M.2 2280 format will participate in the upcoming mission to create a data center on the moon. During the Technology Readiness Level 6 tests, NASA confirmed the reliability and readiness of the disks for operation in vacuum and at low temperatures.

SSDs will be used to create data centers on the moon. The test placement is planned to be carried out in the second half of 2023. The device will be a small server and a book-sized module that will work on solar batteries.

Phison has some experience in space missions. For example, the Perseverance rover, which landed on the red planet in 2021 and is still operating, is equipped with an 8-GB SSD. Phison also operates on the International Space Station.

Phison CEO Khein-Seng Pua thanked Lonestar and SkyCorp for their collaboration and said the company is very pleased to take on this important role in the upcoming mission.
